Mike Dan :
Bisi, let me challenge your argument from another angle. The UK is actually one of the countries where alternatives to conventional classroom education are far more developed and accessible. There are colleges, apprenticeships, vocational programmes, internships and other practical pathways that offer young people opportunities beyond the traditional academic route. Some parents even deliberately combine conventional education with these alternative pathways, depending on their children's interests and abilities.
Take my daughter, for example. She loves football. The reality is that Nigeria cannot currently offer her the same opportunities, facilities and pathways to develop that passion as the UK can. That is one of the reasons she is here. Who knows? Someday, she could become a female Messi. The point is not whether she actually becomes one; the point is that, as a parent, I want to put her in an environment where her potential has the best possible chance to flourish.
So, I completely understand the argument that Nigerian parents make enormous sacrifices to give their children better opportunities hence their sacrifices Many genuinely do. Parents are not doing it all for someone's machine or the regular approach. All you have said, parents are already tapping into it
However, even after conceding all of that, I can still challenge the broader notion behind my argument which you.will agreewith. And I think my challenge goes much deeper.
Do you want me to tell you why?
