Was using the Storm Shadow missile a good move in the Russo-Ukrainian war? Well, the Russian Defense Ministry dropped a pretty big bombshell on July 20th. They claimed that a Russian air defense system, the Tor-M2, shot down a Storm Shadow cruise missile right over Kupyansk in Kharkiv, Ukraine. At that time the storm shadow was launched from a modified MiG-29 or Su-24. We've seen this missile pack a punch before, taking out some serious Russian military targets. But this time, it didn't go as planned. And it wasn't just the Storm Shadow that went down. The Russian operators were bragging that they also shot down a bunch of other stuff, like a Portuguese-made Tekever drone, some Furia and Leleka reconnaissance drones, and even a long-range HIMARS. Talk about a lucky day for the Russians, all these targets flying right into the Storm Shadow's flight path. But didn't Ukraine see a video that should have been a reminder not to use the Storm Shadow? In a record, a Russian bomb expert, whose identity was concealed, once dismantled non-functioning Storm Shadow missiles donated by the UK and France. The footage shows one of the projectiles being taken apart by Russian military technicians. You can see several crucial components from the downed missile, including the rocket engine. This is a disaster for Ukraine because Russia's curiosity gave their military insights on how to better counter these missiles. So why does Ukraine keep using them?
