Denis Rench Psychologist :
People who were always blamed for their fault and that of other's, grew up knowing that they needed to fix everything and everyone.
Therefore, they keep taking up responsibility for other people's behavior just so they can try to fix something to avoid blame.
Letting go of this responsibility is not just an easy task for them because fixing was not just a behavior but it was embodied in their personality.

One of my hardest lessons and I still struggle with it today. I think when you have no control over the circumstances of your childhood, you begin to believe that your actions can change the outcome Yet, life shows some of us repeatedly, that outcomes have more variables than our actions.

This is so insightful. I recently blamed myself for someone else being incapable of giving me more. Upon taking a closer look - I could not have changed it. Must simply accept the other person was the issue and I was very communicative and tried my best.

So true, it's easier to see fault in yourself but healing teaches you that you weren't always at fault.

I think this applies to grief to - holding on to regret is a way to control the grief, to keep it localized to “something you can grow from” instead of learning to release it, or just sit in it.
