@askpaindoc: I want to be clear about my perspective here: I’m a pain physician, not an OB-GYN or fertility specialist. So I’m not going to tell you who should have surgery, how infertility related to endometriosis should be managed, or pretend this is my area of specialty. But I do treat people living with chronic pain, and I think we have to be incredibly careful about minimizing conditions that can cause years of debilitating symptoms. Endometriosis is not simply “having painful periods.” For some patients, it can mean severe pelvic pain, pain with sex, bowel or bladder symptoms, fatigue, difficulty functioning, and a significant impact on quality of life. And despite that, many patients spend years trying to get a diagnosis, with diagnostic delays for endometriosis commonly measured in years. Imagine living with severe symptoms for that long while repeatedly wondering whether anyone is going to take you seriously. There can and should be nuanced conversations about diagnosis, medications, surgery, fertility, risks, benefits, and when intervention is appropriate. Those conversations belong between patients and clinicians with expertise in treating endometriosis. But we can have those conversations without minimizing the disease or the people living with it. As a pain physician, that’s the part I don’t want us to lose sight of. VC: @Silber Infertility Center #Endometriosis #ChronicPain #PelvicPain #WomensHealth #PatientAdvocacy

Ariel Tonks :
So my bleeding intestines and liver issues from endo tissue was just an overmarketed painful period... cool cool cool, I'll let my bowels know that they don't need anymore removals and can go back to their malabsorption issues.

I love when men talk about women’s illnesses .🙄 I have interstitial cystitis which is primarily a disease that hits women. I love when doctors say I’m not hurting more than “a mild bladder infection “. I get kidney stones yearly and I’d rather deal with them than an IC flare!

My daughter passed out because of the "just having painful periods", she had 2 surgeries because of the "just painful periods". There was a woman in her room who had a cystectomy because of the "just painful periods". That makes me so angry.

My OB was so condescending about my endometriosis. I went in for a laparoscopy and ended up have a full “c-section scar revision” ( nice way of saying major abdominal surgery) because the scar tissue mass was so much larger than they had initially thought. OB made sure to personally (and insincerely) apologize afterwards.

So if women have pain with period, we give the pill or other shit in a body but stop looking why women have painfully period...... that is something 99% of doctors do, give pills and stop looking futher. specially with women.
