If people genuinely believe that the upper echelons of academia should be a meritocracy, I eagerly await the day that “top professorial position at prestigious institution given to posh lad because of his background and connected friend” elicits the same response as claims that “black guy gets chair because of ethnicity”. Because the former is by far the more common scenario.
