@jesskbacon: I feel as though Ted Lasso season 4 is finding its feet with episode two after returning to Richmond and introducing more of the core themes of the season and the new players. Alice Chilton is a great new addition, as she challenges Rebecca and adds a new dynamic working with Ted. I love this Apple TV show! #whattowatch #tedlasso #appletv #tvseries #jasonsudeikis

I love the new season when I played sports. The guys team always got everything good and I just relate to the show so much and it’s got me to cry in this season so much already but I’m so happy about this.

soooo weird to me because it instantly felt like a big warm blanket to me again. I bawled my silly heart out at Alice's reaction to the new locker room 😭

Honestly I really like it, unfortunately it’s getting the supergirl treatment like many films, shows, and media before where if u get the women’s version of something like a supergirl or captain marvel or she hulk, the critics don’t seem to give it a chance

I have to say, I was very disappointed with episode 1, finding it too twee and not like the characters at all. But I straight up BAWLED at episode two. Love Alice, and, as coach beard would say, we are so back, bay bay !!!

I came in there with low expectations as I thought it would just be saying how women should get payed the same as men in football (which they shouldn’t but that’s a whole other thing) but they directly address that women’s football has to put men’s teams at jeopardy just to be formed. Of course we won’t love the players as much as the original men’s team but they’ve done a great job considering and put up a great cast

Admittedly the first episode wasn’t thrilling, but they had to set the scene to explain why he’s returning to Richmond. But episode two started to introduce the new situation and characters and it’s starting to feel like it could be a fantastic season ahead.

In these types of things it’s best to think about what Red himself has said: “be curious, not judgemental.”

After today’s episode I’m finding Ted Lasso’s portrayal of women’s football really tropey and a bit preachy. It reduces criticism of the women’s game to basically “men don’t like women playing football”, when the reality is far more nuanced. There’s actually a lot of goodwill towards women’s football, and plenty of criticism is constructive around finances, standards, development, accessibility and how the game grows. It also feels strange putting the women’s game on a moral pedestal when it has its own issues. You hear concerns around racism, cliquey environments and experiences at grassroots and academy level that deserve discussion too. Even the players themselves feel oddly written. They’re adult professional footballers, yet at times the dressing room comes across like a Year 7/8 changing room. Men’s dressing rooms obviously have banter and silliness, but they’re still adults. I obviously can’t speak for what a women’s dressing room is actually like, but this portrayal just feels stereotypical rather than authentic. There are funny moments, but I wish the show trusted the audience with a bit more nuance instead of constantly telling us who the “good” and “bad” people are.
