@aesthetic.iq6: This comet was supposed to be almost invisible. Then suddenly, it became thousands of times brighter. This is 220P/McNaught — a short-period comet that returns to the Sun roughly every 5.5 years. In June 2026, it experienced a massive outburst, becoming about 8,000 times brighter than normal. Then in August, it erupted again. Images captured between August 12–14 show more than just a beautiful green coma. We’re looking at the aftermath of a small icy world suddenly coming alive as it travels around the Sun again and again. And here’s the fascinating part: we still can’t perfectly predict, when a comet will suddenly do something like this. #Astronomy #Comet #Space #Science #Astrophotography
