I was at a McDonald's when my daughter when she was about 8 months old and thanked a veteran for his service. My baby was a super happy baby so she gave him a big smile and he said, "That smile on that baby's face is why I fought for this country." Went to my car and sobbed for like 20 minutes 😭

I was walking with a buddy of mine that had just got his citizenship and his girlfriend had a shirt made for him that stated as much. We were walking out of a restaurant and walked past a Vietnam vet, he said 'welcome home sir' and the old man said 'likewise young man'.

i worked in retail i had this old man who was wearing a veteran hat he talked about the time he fought in vietnam. i thanked him for his service and smiled at him he said “i will do it again for you” i nearly held it together till i got in my car and sobbed

One time I used the phonetic alphabet because he was already grumpy and brought up how he was retired from the military and got one of the sweetest compliments. It went something like “Thank your for not being one of those dummies who uses A for alligator and w for watermelon. You know your stuff.” 😅

I’m a paralegal at a firm that handles VA disability claims and I have to stay impartial when I talk to them, but I have cried because before doing this job I didn’t know what I was going to be able to contribute to the world. To most of my clients, these claims are their income and the acknowledgment by the military matters, so it’s always worth it, but man do some of them get me emotional when they get the results they’ve been waiting decades for sometimes.

When I was a stylist I had a Vietnam vet who was talking to me about how he’s handle the traumaand when I told him I had my own demons I was dealing with he looked at me and said ‘I’m happy you’re still here. I’m happy I get to see your lovely smile and hear you laugh.’ He was the most lovely person I had ever met.

I’m an RN. I had an older gentleman patient tell me he is a Vietnam Veteran. He told me stories, and I thanked him for his service. He said that same thing to me. “You are worth it. And thank you for taking care of me.” Bolted straight to the staff restroom and sobbed for a good 10 mins 😩🤍
