@the.drillmaster: Do you know the two authorized methods of moving the staff from Order to the Carry Position? “Carry Colors” is widely treated as an Army command—but historically, it is not. The Marine Corps codified it as a command in the 1960s, while Army practice identifies Carry as a position and uses Right Shoulder as the command (in the battalion formation, for instance - more on that soon). AJROTC adopted the command as well. That matters because once people create a command, they often create a movement to go with it. Some cadets lift the staff straight up, raise the right hand to shoulder height, force the staff across the body, then slam the ferrule into the harness socket—all on contrived counts. You are not supposed to match the Right Shoulder counts. If the manual does not prescribe that choreography, don’t invent it. From Order to Carry, the color bearer can use a simple lift method or a controlled launch method. Both accomplish the required transition without unnecessary movement. The principle is simple: 🚫 do not create where creation is unnecessary. Follow prescribed movements when they exist.
