It was a non story. The University should have dealt with privately like it does with the other white Professors 😳😭

The reaction to Jason Arday shows the clear line between academic checks and a targeted mob. Verifying claims belongs in formal university inquiries, but this escalated into a relentless pile-on fueled by elitism and racial bias.
Look at how selectively this was applied. When allegations were raised about Sheikh Dr Meshaal’s PhD, the uni checked it quietly internally, cleared him, and everyone moved on. But with Arday, anti-DEI accounts weaponised his background, GCSEs, and neurodivergence to claim he lacked grounding, while falsely claiming a supervisor's scandal ruins a student's PhD. Exposing mistakes is the job of university boards, not an internet mob fabricating quotes and hounding a human being until they break.

Jason Arday was investigated and cleared of plagurism accusations. They then started to pick his life apart and claim everything he ever said was a lie without providing any proof

It’s just all so sad. I feel like we shouldn’t even know his name & I’m very suspicious as to why I do (given that I’m not in his academic circles) .

What I can’t get past; this was an internal issue that never should have been made public, they dragged his personal persona through the media, the made this a personal attack on a man who did what he thought was right. If it was a white employee it wouldn’t have been made public, also the fact he was autistic where was the duty of care? People heavily focused on him being a person of colour without remembering his neurodivergent status. Cambridge as an education institution need to be bought into question and held accountable as do the media, where are the white education professionals fighting for their colleagues who are a minority. So many questions……..as a mother of an autistic child, I must add he would have felt this hard, he would have felt it so so hard, my heart breaks for him

Plagiarism sounds scary but can mean nothing at all. I had a mate almost get in trouble the day before his Cambridge viva this year because he was accused of plagiarising himself. It turns out the accuser was mistaken and caused a lot of stress for nothing. A lot of the time “plagiarism” is accidental and can be as simple as someone making a referencing mistake.

The agenda was clear from the start and I feel fearful we are on the foothills of this kind of racism coming back with a vengeance in the UK.

I’ve seen people compare this to Caroline Flack’s death. Two entirely different scenarios. If it does turn out that he’s taken his own life, academic misconduct/ plagiarism is different to domestic abuse

I totally agree. Don’t always agree with your takes. But spot on. We are humans who live in community for goodness sake. There’s a dark part of ourselves that enjoys seeing somewhere wriggle under a microscope

As a foreign researcher in the UK I was surprised this got so much attention prior to his tragic death. Stuff like this happens regularly in academia, and I had never seen it written about so much. It is definitely a racist agenda, and the consequences are devistating. I am so sad, but also worried for other minority researchers that will experience this in a future

Remember how excited people got to watch public executions during times of monarchy? Yeah well, we haven't really evolved as a species. It's truly sad.

It’s a media lynch mob, frothing at the mouth, with people seemingly relishing in his humiliation, hunting for the next revelation, competing to inflict reputational damage, falling over themselves to uncover why “he was late for work once”. Like who cares? How does this impact us? People aren’t even aware what this years drought has done to farm yields and how this is the coolest summer we will ever have! We’re in big trouble as a country this professor is the least of our worries !

Part of the problem is that people simply don't view the person on the other side of the screen as a person. To them they are basically a character, so punishing them is nothing more than a form of entertainment.
When punishment becomes entertainment it only furthers cruelty
