New construction = a race to the bottom. It used to be a gateway to building a relationship with the developer or GC, that ended years ago. Now, it's just low price and false promises from them. If you're in new construction get out now and move to service, memberships, and AOR and watch your margins, avg ticket etc go up.

We are in Arkansas so the spring and fall are pretty mild. We do some new construction but we use subs when we are in change out seasons and our in house guys when we’re not busy with change outs. We use junior techs and installers to do trim outs to train them. We do mostly customs and some specs but we shoot for 35%-40% GPM.

I’ve wrapped up 10 houses in the last three or four months walked away with over 100 grand if that’s not making easy money I don’t know what is, we’re doing them with one hand tied behind our back.

Well sir for your information every single builders install we provide comes with a free two year service contract. I have established a client list of over 1,900 year round customers. And growing. It’s not about builders it’s about the home owners

32 years in HVAC business and I have a mix of both 60%New Construction 40% replacement and service ! I keep my 35 employees and 30 subs busy year round while other companies lose them in the shoulder months. Proper marketing will keep you 60%of those new construction customers! Just my 2 cents

Not to mention the 100 trips to work around other trades, the call backs the other trades cause because the painters rigged the heater to run so they could have heat, the dirty Acoil because they ran the AC and my favorite, the bad duct design that your installers didn't do right because they were 1 wye short when the supplyhouse didn't bring it to the jobsite and were to lazy to go get.
