Some pain does not come from enemies—it comes from the people you trusted to stand beside you. Imam Hassan (as) knew that pain deeply. He was the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (saww), raised in the home of revelation. Yet after losing his grandfather, his mother Fatima al-Zahra (sa), and his father Imam Ali (as), he carried an immense responsibility in a world that had changed around him. He watched loyalty disappear when he needed it most. He was abandoned by people who promised to defend him, betrayed by some within his own camp, and criticized for accepting a peace treaty that protected Muslim lives. People mistook his mercy for weakness, never understanding the strength it takes to restrain your pain for the sake of others. To remain gentle after being hurt. To protect those who misunderstand you. To carry grief quietly because others depend on your strength. To feel alone, even while surrounded by people. This poem speaks of exile, longing, separation and waiting to see one’s loved ones again. It reminds us of Imam Hassan (as): surrounded by people, yet left alone; the grandson of the Prophet, yet prevented from being buried beside him. Even after his martyrdom by poison, his funeral was met with arrows. He was buried in Jannat al-Baqi, where his grave was later demolished—leaving his lovers without even a visible shrine at which to gather and mourn. “My soul is longing, though the road is far…” The road to al-Baqi may be long, and his grave may stand without a dome or marker, but no distance can separate Imam Hassan (as) from the hearts that love him. Peace be upon the patient and poisoned Imam. Peace be upon the one whose kindness was mistaken for weakness. Peace be upon the lonely grave of Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba (as). May Allah allow our longing souls to stand before him in al-Baqi one day. 💔🏴 #islam #History #poetry
