@flawlessandbeyond: Rick had a change of heart, Day 14 pt2 of the 30 day makeover. If I could go back in time, I would tell myself remember 14 days I was a complete stranger to Rick. We have turned his life upside down, it must be so overwhelming for him. When he’s ready down the line we will sort a stairlift for him, but for now he’s active and wants to stay that way. I was told move it or lose it, so I shouldn’t have taken it to heart when he changed his mind. I cannot wait to share the next steps with you all, thank you for your patience. #30daymakeover #elderlycare #kindness
He doesn’t think ahead cause he thinks he will be the way he is forever and maybe so. Please be there if he changes his mind again

Elderly people hate change. He isn’t being rude or ungrateful he is just scared

I think he’s making a mistake but it’s his choice as you said. I wondered if he would get overwhelmed at some point. Xxx

Speaking as someone who isn’t far off Ricks age. It absolutely pisses me off when people are bending over backwards to help and the elderly won’t give an inch or, be the slightest bit flexible with what’s going to help them

He probably doesn’t want to feel like he will be incapable of climbing the stairs later but you 100 percent right. You are future proofing his home for him hod bless him

It’s the sense of losing control. He doesn’t mean to be difficult, change is very hard for a lot of people

Some times with older people it takes time for change to sink in.

rent a stair lift.. the company fit it and do maintenance on it yearly.. no need to buy one outright.. and something to thing about is a seat that can lift up and out the bath.

100% suggest a stair lift! I’ve worked with many that don’t want a downstairs bathroom, there are always ways to cope and manage that carers take into consideration 😌 fantastic job 🙌🏻

Bless you. I can imagine that was hard to hear. I’m so grateful you still listened even if it’s not the right decision long term for him. You respected it and that will feel better inside you with time. It’s amazing what you’re doing xxx

Some of the comments have saddened me. I wouldn’t say he’s being ungrateful. Although it’s not that visible, he’ll be feeling very overwhelmed. He initially struggled to let go of items. His dad wouldn’t let tradesmen in. He didn’t realise how bad the conditions were that he was living in. Please don’t let this dishearten you, Ben. As much as you know the downstairs shower would make his life easier, all the other changes you’re making will be life changing. Hot running water. No vermin infestation. A decent bed to sleep in. Those are just some of the changes that we all take for granted that Rick hasn’t had until now.

You did the right thing in respecting his choice. He's taken a huge leap of faith in trusting you with this, managing a lot of overwhelming change and emotions. He may well come round in time, but him trusting you is more valuable right now xx

it's very hard to allow people to have the autonomy they deserve whilst wanting the best for them, ultimately listening to him is going to be more valuable for him even if it feels like the wrong choice yourself

Listen Ben, I’d be happy wherever you put the shower. He’s being ungrateful now. He seemed ok about when you explained it to him in previous episode’s. I understand how you feel. I know one thing, I wouldn’t be putting in a stair lift.
