Recommend Jochen Schleese's insights on how to fit saddles to horses. He keeps the weight-bearing panels off of the spine and off of the ribs. Behind the shoulder blades and in front of the lumbar spine.

The one on the left would commit war crimes against me. The one on the right is full grown (he looks healthier now, pic was taken not long after being rescued), but would be happy to just be involved. I do think you're onto something though. 😂
