I usually agree with all your takes MJ but I'm proud of this generation changing things at weddings to suit them rather than what old people expect or misogynistic traditions.

I know I’m a little dated, but weddings used to be a lot less expensive and elaborate. Then people decided to make it a fairy princess event with a price tag that would buy a small home. Now they can’t afford the fairy princess event so they’re doing this instead of just scaling down to something small. It’s like we forgotten that the purpose of a wedding is to actually just be married.

That is painfully in bad taste.

I sort of like that the younger generation is breaking the traditional “rules” around marriage

There was a lady on here saying her husband was invited to 2 weddings without her. Etiquette used to say anyone over 18 gets a plus 1

Eh, I’m 48. My husband is going to a co workers wedding in a few weeks. It’s a really small wedding. I do know the couple but I’m not invited because they can’t afford to have a ton of people. I was actually very relieved to not be invited. I like them I just don’t wanna get dressed up and all that nonsense. I can’t stand dresses and my feet don’t like shoes 😅

Maybe this is just because I'm a millennial, but it wouldn't bother me. If a couple said, "hey I'm sorry but we can't afford to have extra people there, it'll just be specific relatives." I wouldn't be offended. Because it's not about me. It's THEIR wedding. And it's not personal. It's literally just a financial decision, which is understandable. 🤷🏻♀️I'm still sending a gift!

First consequence will be the gift. She’s not inviting the person in those families who was going to buy the wedding gift.

I guess I don’t understand wedding culture but if you can’t afford a big wedding, have a small one maybe? Just invite your family or people you see regularly.

1. Don’t get married 2. Don’t waste money on a wedding 3. Elope if you can’t do 1 or 2.

I am in my 60s and I love these new trends. I have a baby shower and ordered the gift on line which is going straight to the parents prior to the party. No wrapping or lugging. I’ve been going to weddings solo since my divorce 30 yrs ago. It’s not a big deal.

Yep my daughter has been with her partner 10 years and 2 kids. I am constantly insulted on behalf of my daughter not being g invited to significant events and her husband still goes. It hurts me that she is not invited and her husband still goes

Don’t get married. Lol. Just have a big party. Everyone can bring a dish to share. Cut expenses, not people.

Wow…. No I’ve never heard of this. Do people actually accept wedding invites where they are not permitted to bring their spouse? I just wouldn’t go.

I knew nothing about this, but I don’t think it’s about the cost. Social media conditions us to create safe spaces for ourselves. In our bespoke realities, strangers BAD!

Getting picked as a guest for a wedding is like being picked for a sport in gym class.. how bout do a destination wedding and those that can attend attend. Save your money for your house if you are getting married! 🤷♀️

If I had a partner, I wouldn’t attend if he was excluded. I was a “plus one” for plenty of male friends back in the day and I had no clue who was getting married. That couple in your video should just elope.
