Zootopia was a great allegory of the crack epidemic of the 80s imo

"X-Men is an allegory for gay people"
If gay people could, as a teenager, blow up a city block when in a bad mood, I'd want to have a registration of us too...

I will note on elemental, to US fire seems scary, but to the other elements? Earth doesn’t really burn, air is fine, and water hurts *them*. So it’s playing with us, it’s counting on human instinct of ‘fire dangerous’ but in reality they are the most vulnerable and water is the physically dangerous ones

Thing is with Zootopia is that they show other races as literally being other animals

my issue with these stories is that protagonist is always white! Detroit become human especially

I feel like a better example of an allegory for race was trolls world tour bc they were all trolls, they just listened to different music, looked a bit different than the pop trolls, and dressed differently to fit the aesthetic of whatever music genre they were based on

Elemental shows that fire is more as risk than the other elements are and the predators in zootopia are no more a threat to prey than a buff guy is a threat to the public.

A series similar to Zootopia that uses the predator prey allegory perfectly i think is Beastars. Not for race but gender. The entire population is split in half with one group that is on average physically stronger than the other. The weaker half constantly lives with the knowledge that the other half could snap at any moment and seriously injure or kill them for any reason. While the other half is fully aware of that power imbalance and is constantly checking themselves to come off as nonthreatening as possible, but still unable to shake the knowledge that they’re perceived as a threat by almost everyone.

this is why i like beastars cuz i feel like its not trying to specifically be a race metaphor. rather different dynamics in the story represent different situations, with some being similar to race relations but others feel more akin to gender or class issues

In Elemental’s defense, literally all the elements can and do cause trouble due to their element. Wade could kill Ember too if he really tried, and there’s tons of instances of elements bumping into each-other and stuff lol

The thing in elemental tho is their actually incapable of hurting the other elements. Like they can burn plants that earth people have but it’s basically just a haircut. Meanwhile they constantly have to worry about losing whole body parts

becuase the thing is mutants could be born with the ability to erase/shift reality while other races irl are simply just another color in the human race

Predators aren't a threat to prey in zootopia though. It's been thousands, possibly millions of years in the story since predators hunted prey and they seem to live perfectly fine together.
Like yeah, ig they still have some of the physical features of predators? But I mean, there are plenty of prey animals that could easily kick most predators butt. Like, an elephant could easily step on and destroy a shrew. That bull cop character is significantly more of a physical threat to Judy than Nick is. So that argument kinda falls apart, and predators aren't really anymore physically intimidating than prey animals are.

i also hate racism allegories where the other group is an actual different species. like the "we're all the same" falls a little flat when there are large, significant biological differences between the groups

I've always liked zombies as an allegory for individualism more. it's sorta just a fantasy about mowing down your neighbors when you think about it
