President Trump pushed back Wednesday on reports that the recent U.S. strikes against Iran only set the country’s nuclear program back by months, insisting the facilities had been “obliterated.” “It was so bad that they ended the war. It ended the war,” he said at a NATO press conference in The Hague. “Somebody said, in a certain way, that it was so devastating, actually, if you look at Hiroshima, if you look at Nagasaki, you know, that ended a war, too. This ended a war in a different way.” Media outlets reported Tuesday on a preliminary assessment from the Defense Intelligence Agency that questioned whether the strikes had destroyed the underground facilities. President Trump did not dispute the DIA report but said it was merely a preliminary assessment and cited a statement from the Israel Atomic Energy Commission that said the strikes had “set back Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons by many years.” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also excoriated the media for reporting on the “low confidence” assessment, which he said was leaked to try to hurt President Trump and denigrate the service members who carried out the attack “They don’t care what the troops think, they don’t care what the world thinks, they want to spin it, to try and make him look bad, based on a leak,” he said. “Of course, we’ve all seen plenty of leakers, and what do leakers do? They have agendas.” Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who testified earlier this year that Iran was not building a nuclear weapon, also put out statement to support the president’s assertion. “Iran’s nuclear facilities have been destroyed. If the Iranians chose to rebuild, they would have to rebuild all three facilities (Natanz, Fordow, Esfahan) entirely, which would likely take years to do,” she wrote on social media. #trump #petehegseth #cspan
