Once you’re talking about the top 14 law schools location near DC probably doesn’t matter. Going into corporate law, I don’t know that George Mason is a great choice. UVA or NYU would leave you in a much better position.

location is really important for many law schools - but schools in the t-14 have extremely portable degrees! dc is a highly competitive market - to get the best chance of getting a corporate job in dc, it’s not necessarily true that georgetown’s the best choice (although of course it’s a great school)! check the 509 reports to see how many grads get jobs in dc and talk to current students! im a 2L at duke and everyone i know of who wanted to get a job in dc got one!

when you say “corporate law,” are you interested in big law specifically? if so, i highly recommend looking at the 509s to see how many grads these schools send to 501+ attorney firms — you might consider rearranging this list (pending your lsat, of course). good luck!! 🍀

Just went through this past cycle and I would say that even if stats align everything is so unpredictable!! i would maybe apply to other schools in the regions you are interested in that show on ABA forms that they’ve given aid in the past. this way you’ll have leverage for negotiation & a great safety if you are really sold on the area

As someone who went through law school applications, I urge you to not pay that much attention to the USNWR rankings and pay way more attention to job outcomes and placements that match what/where you want to practice

DC is not the best location for corporate law. If you mean big law litigation, then sure, but if you want to do transactional corporate law then NYC is better. But if you mean “corporate law” to mean big law then you should just go to the highest ranking school you can

Those are pretty great stats! I think you could get into these schools, especially if you get in your application early around December/January. I’d definitely throw in a couple lower ranked schools as safeties/to get bigger scholarship offers you can leverage to negotiate higher offers at the higher ranked schools. Good luck!!
