True, but school season sometimes doesn't work that way. my daughter plays on an elite team for club vball, but plays at a small school for volleyball. she sees school as a practice. a time for her to perfect everything she needs for club. idk, we've struggled with the same points you posted. but...my daughter knows who she is and what she's capable of.

You give a lot of good advice, and I do understand the 'big fish in a small bowl' analogy you're putting out here. I agree with it to a large extend. However, saying that if you are the only one chasing big goals in your friend group, you should get other friends is not great. If you outgrow a team, you should switch teams, sure. Because the main goal of the team is the sport you play. But that is not the main goal for friendgroups. The main goal of friendgroups is just that, friendship. I'm not friends with my buddies because they are anything in particular. I am friends with them because I love them, and know that they'll have my back no matter what, and I'll have theirs, no matter what. Don't advice young people to leave their friends behind because they don't have similar ambitions. Being a great athlete can be lonely enough as it is. Besides, good friends keep you grounded.
