The PCs discover buildings burning down, discover those responsible are entities from another universe who take over the lives of a ragtag collection of dangerous misfits so they can vicariously fight, kill, and loot the bodies. If one avatar dies the entity scrounges up another body. Yes, the Mages have discovered a group of cosmic beings are using their world as the setting for their RPG, and they have decided to play like murder hobos.

Very nice! But now the million dollar question, storyteller to storyteller: how to you make a Mage game that doesn’t devolve into players using magic to solve every single problem, or hoard XP to buy arete and spheres instead of almost anything else? Paradox is supposed to be the balancing factor, but it either too disincentivizes the use of magic (which is the whole point of being a mage), or isn’t really a deterrent at all.

i use call of Cthulhu modules. They usually are horror modules. Chtullu didn't expect the prime 3 + Forces 3 energy ball that my hermetic player threw in his face

When you said guys with weapons I honestly thought you were framing a hunter group as aggressors to really drive home the divide mages have from mortals and hunters since their awakened. I’m honestly not sure you arnt 🤔

It's like when you try to describe that really awesome dream you had to your friend, realize halfway through they got bored and you forgot the rest, and so round out the ending with even weirder shit. I say this with love. Mage Ascension is second only to Changeling The Lost in my favorite ttrpgs.
