Yareli Ponce :
I remember when I took my mom to get an iced coffee after I got my first car. We were in the drive-thru getting ready to order our coffees, and all of a sudden I heard her quietly crying. I asked her why she was crying, and she said, “I never thought we’d ever be doing this.”
In that moment, I realized that she wasn’t just experiencing that moment as my mom. She was experiencing it as the little girl she once was, too. Her inner child was probably looking around, taking it all in, realizing that somehow, life had brought her to a place she once never thought she’d see.
It was just an iced coffee to me, but to her, it meant so much more. It was a moment she never thought would happen—a moment where her child was the one taking care of her, taking her somewhere, buying her something, and giving her a little piece of happiness. And that’s when I realized that sometimes the simplest things we do for our parents can mean the world to them. We get so caught up in thinking about everything they’ve done for us that we forget they’re also just people who have dreams, memories, disappointments, and an inner child that still deserves to experience joy. I’ll never forget that moment, because I realized that I wasn’t just taking my mom to get coffee. In a small way, I was giving her a moment she once thought she’d never have. ❤️I still buy her “cafe frio con poco hielo.” La amo mucho mami❤️@rcarmen12
