The Australian government has criticised the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) over its decision not to formally investigate whether crimes were committed by those responsible for killing Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom. In one of her strongest statements as foreign minister, Penny Wong said "Australia is outraged" at the IDF's decision to close the investigation into the April 2024 drone strike in Gaza that killed Frankcom and others working for World Central Kitchen. The decision was published on World Humanitarian Day, which Minister Wong said was "especially insulting" to Frankcom’s family and humanitarians across the globe. She also revealed Israel communicated its decision to the Australian government "moments" before it was publicly announced. Wong paid tribute to Frankcom on Wednesday, at an event hosted by the Australian Council for International Development where she said: "I want to make it clear that the Australian government continues to press the Israeli Government for full accountability for the deaths of Zomi and her World Central Kitchen colleagues."
