My fav 4th wall break was in aot season 3/4 where officers tells one of characters the reason why they are not feeling bad about turning others humans into titans its not because of racism but bc its intriguing, interesting and even educational how you can experience tragedy of other person. Way that it was composed was thought responders pov making it also being spoken to us as audience and being told directly abt us too since the show contains brutal scenes that lots of people watch the show for. Making us more set into perspective of casual officer there

Fun fact: The 12 tone system, like all music systems, was influenced and formed due to the harmonics of the instruments prioritized in that culture. The harmonies in the 12 tone system match well with those found in stringed instruments, woodwinds, and the human voice.

I didn’t even really realize that’s what was happening in this scene but I really did feel this way when Frieren wasn’t there for the fight. You nailed it. I do also love that that fight was able to show us just how capable fern and stakes are as individuals

I feel like a character can also break the fourth wall unintentionally. For example most marvel characters can be found on posters, lunch boxes, and you can see them randomly in day to day basis. Basically seeing a character outside of their story it could take someone outside of the story effectively removing the wall.

Solid video, but conflating “breaking the fourth wall” with catharsis - which seems to be what your specific examples of immersion and resonance seem to point to - is a bit misleading and refuses the more potent arguments you could make by comparing and contrasting them. At least that’s my two cents. That said, I’ve been enjoying your visual studies on Frieren whenever I see them.
