One question I get a lot from Kenyans planning to study in Canada 🇰🇪🇨🇦 is: Master’s or Postgrad… what’s actually the difference? Having personally gone the postgraduate route, I think the biggest thing is understanding that they’re not the same qualification, and each can make sense depending on what you’re trying to achieve. For me, one of the things that made a postgrad attractive was the cost. It was much more affordable compared to many Master’s programs I was looking at, and it was practical and career-focused. A Master’s is a graduate degree and generally has stricter entry requirements, usually requiring an undergraduate degree. A postgraduate certificate or diploma is a different credential, and admission requirements can vary depending on the school and program. There are also differences that can matter beyond school. For example, a Master’s can receive higher education points under Express Entry CRS than certain other combinations of post-secondary credentials. There are also differences with the PGWP. Under the current rules, eligible Master’s graduates can potentially receive a 3-year PGWP even when their Master’s program is less than 2 years, as long as it meets the applicable requirements. Other programs don’t automatically get that same treatment. But I wouldn’t look at this as “Master’s is better” or “Postgrad is better.” I’d look at it as: What can I afford? What fits my academic background? What makes sense for my career? How long do I want to study? And what does this choice mean for my plans after graduation? For me, a postgraduate program made sense for where I was at that point in my journey. For someone else, a Master’s might make much more sense. So if you’re back home comparing programs, take your time and understand what you’re actually applying for before making the decision. I’m sharing this from my own personal experience and general information I’ve learned along the way. This isn’t immigration, legal or academic advice, and everyone’s situation is different. Admission requirements and Canadian immigration rules can also change, so always verify the latest information with the school and official Canadian sources before making a decision. Master’s or Postgrad which one are you considering? 👀 #kenyantiktok #kenyanincanada🇰🇪🇨🇦 #kenyansabroad #kalenjintiktokers #kikuyutiktok
