When you take it seriously for others but not yourself. I used to think burnout was just being “a bit tired.” Turns out… it can take over your entire body. (Insert bish slap). I hit a point where I was physically burnt out. And the scariest part? I didn’t even see it coming. I was in complete denial. I felt ashamed and ignorant. I decided the best thing to do was ignore it. Continue to soilder on. Even with a university-level understanding… I was in complete denial. I had to relearn the basics: • What sleep hygiene actually means (hint: it’s not just getting 8 hours) • Eating properly more protein, regular meals, not skipping because “I’m busy” (always too busy). • Separating my work life from my home life. Literally packing up work and putting it away. • Accepting that loving your work doesn’t mean sacrificing yourself to it even though it brings you immense joy at your detriment. Because somewhere along the way, I forgot something important: You are not meant to disappear into your work. Burnout doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’ve been strong for too long without support. I remember sitting there thinking: “Why the hell do I need to take time off, mate?” But taking time off didn’t break me. It gave me my life back. I learned to: Be present in my personal life Hear the birds tweet Watch tv (a practice I’m not great at) ‘ Sleep in’ without guilt Put my “baby” second, my dreams, my goals and passion. It’s not going to succeed without me and I won’t be the amazing director without it. Burnout is more common than we talk about. And if you’re going through it right now you are not alone. You can still be successful. You can still build the life you want. You just need to drop the speed in which you do it. For me if I had ceased it entirely, I would’ve been worse off. Everything can always be created and done in a way to suit you for the greater benefit. Just not at the cost of yourself. No matter what has triggered it. Despite that, you are successful. You are capable. You need to give yourself space to feel, and my God when you do….The world is amazing. You may just cry like a freak in Europe. Because you actually feel the history & art. Success is nothing without me. Success is nothing without my ability to do my best Success is nothing if I cannot enjoy it. If this resonates with you, I hope it gives you even a little bit of clarity… or comfort 🤍 We’re all human. We all feel, endure and experience the same things. Just in different packages. In the grand scheme of life, burnout isn’t all the bad with what could could go wrong. It wasn’t easy. It was just eye opening. I learned, I’m not perfect and I’m okay with that. #burnoutrecovery #MentalHealthAwareness #SelfCare #worklifebalance #burnout
