@drmakkani: Eating salad every day but still constipated, or still dealing with high cholesterol? The fiber type matters more than the fiber amount. Soluble fiber (oats, beans, lentils, psyllium) binds cholesterol and slows carb absorption. Insoluble fiber (wheat bran, vegetable skins, nuts, seeds) adds bulk and moves waste through your gut. Most plants have both, just not in equal amounts. Match the fiber to the problem you're actually trying to solve. This is general education only, not personal medical advice. #fiberfacts #solublefiber #insolublefiber #cholesterolhealth #guthealthtips #internalmedicine #metabolichealth #digestivehealth #doctoradvice #womenshealth

I was surprised when I started looking at how much fiber different foods have and saw that leaves have very little fiber. Beans are the only way I can usually get the recommended amount. I like eating salads for nitrates though and I love putting anchovies on mine for protein and omega 3

Does soluble corn fiber work the same way as soluble fiber in Whole Foods? I know they’re putting a lot of soluble corn fiber in low sugar candies now. But I don’t know if I should count that toward my daily fiber intake or not.

Doctor , does this scenario also apply for cholesterol while perimenopausal? I'm 50, vegetarian and all my blood tests come back great, except for the cholesterol 😔

Getting enough total fiber still matters. But if you’re specifically trying to lower LDL cholesterol or improve constipation, it helps to understand which type of fiber you’re actually getting.

Oats like oatmeal? I eat that, beans, and apples. I don’t even know what lentils, barley, or celium? are! What actual foods have those?

Thank you, this is very helpful. I recently received blood work and my cholesterol was elevated. It was suggested I increase my fiber, but this definitely provided more information. 🫶🏾
