These comments are atrocious. It's not a disease people. It's a genetic trait just like freckles and hair color. There is no "treating" or "curing" it. What we CAN do is research to help better understand autistic people and lead them down paths that will help them care for themselves, understand their strengths, and be successful.

My son is autistic and hasn't been assigned a specific level; because he is just starting to speak, he has 7 years old ,they said his speech delay is part of the autism. However, he has been on a waiting list for speech therapy for four years—I mean, how is he supposed to make progress when he only gets therapy at school?

but yet insurance keep denying medical help for these kids my daughter son is on a permanent feeding tube and insurance wont pay for the formula that goes into his feeding so they struggle to pay 500 dollars a month for him and they are not on government assistance so now they are applying for help because their insurance that they pay over 1500 hundred dollars for get to say no to life saving food for a child

I grew up in the 80s. We had between 25 30/5 and every class I was ever in in elementary school every single year I had at least one kid usually more than that that would be diagnosed with learning disabilities or autism in today's world. Nothing has increased we just didn't diagnose it as autism. We called it MR or special needs.

Since I was little, I knew there was always something wrong with me when I had kids and they were diagnosed with autism. I really felt like something was wrong with me. Finally got tested and I do have autism and looking back. My whole family had autism.

My son is level 3. In in an all out fight for him to get his ABA and therapies for speech, feeding, OT.. all of it with the insurance companies because they’re stopping working with people and limiting access. People think they’re a burden and a drain on resources? Then help them gain the skills they need to work, and be social, and give them a freaking chance. Stop saying it’s a god damn disease.
