My grandfather was the Latin teacher. Back when they taught Latin. He was a hard ass even through an eraser at a student because he fell asleep in his class. But when he died, he had over 400 people come to his funeral that were former students and everything. I was told many stories about how hard he was, but he straighten them out and he taught them well. They even remembered some of the Latin that they were taught, and that was 50 years ago.

My 2nd year of teaching I 90% of my students scored under the 25%. Couldn’t read in English or Spanish and had limited English speaking skills. They were 3rd and 4th graders. I didn’t cry, I stood up at the next staff meeting and let the teachers have it.

Parents! That is the answer! Parents need to be involved in their kids education and make sure they do their homework and get them tutoring if they can’t help in a subject.

I’m in sped and my first year teaching I was in high school. I’ll also add that I got into education later in life, 43, and I treated my students like my children. I had a senior that “couldn’t” do some things. I finally said, “I love you, but I don’t want to see you next year.” He smiled and got busy. He graduated. I love that kid!

I remember the teachers not bothering to try and teach me, gave me all F's and pushed me down the line. one teacher finally caught it and realized I had no knowledge of multiplication. Hot a tutor and learned it. High school sucked, couldn't pass algebra. last teacher looked at me and said you are doing the problems backwards. too late to do anything I graduated. Hate part is when you are trying but nobody takes the time to figure what's wrong
