@simpleliferobyn: As we were walking along the shore, we came up on this beautiful little fish that seemed to have washed up by accident. 🐠 I had never seen this behavior in a fish before so I knew I had to do some research and find out just what it is. 🐠 What is it? 👇🏼 The Pearly razorfish (Xyrichtys novacula), also called the cleaver wrasse 🐠 FUN FACTS: * Dives straight down into the sand bed to escape danger or to sleep safely at night. * Hunts during the day for small sea creatures like crabs, shrimp, mollusks, and worms. * Collects tiny pieces of coral debris to build nests on the seabed. * If caught by an angler, it can twist its mouth and sharp teeth up to a 90-degree angle to snap or cut the fishing line. * They sleep buried safely beneath the ocean floor every single night. * They act as clean-up crews on sandy flats by crunching on tiny snails, crabs, and clams. 🐠 So cool to learn about this “new to me” species! 🐠 #staysalty #marinebiology #naturelovers #floridalife #beachfinds
