Why did the Lord Jesus say that it is difficult for the rich to enter the kingdom of God? Some people explain that in ancient times there was a small gate beside the city gate called the “eye of the needle”. This gate was very narrow, and a camel could not pass through it while standing tall. The only way was: the camel had to unload its burdens, kneel down, and slowly and humbly crawl through. Jesus was not saying that wealthy people cannot enter the kingdom of God. He was showing that people can easily depend on what they have instead of depending on God. Fame and wealth can draw you away from God. Pride can cause you to resist God and refuse to obey Him. Your abilities can make you rely on yourself instead of God. Your position can make you exalt yourself and seek your own glory. In the end, many things can become obstacles that stop you from truly worshipping God. If a person cannot let go of these things, it becomes difficult for them to truly come before God with humility. A person must learn to let go. Let go of pride. Let go of self-reliance. Let go of the things that occupy your heart more than God. So this message is not only for wealthy people. It is also for everyone who refuses to let go of themselves. The real question today is: What is weighing you down? What is occupying your heart? What makes you know God’s Word, yet still refuse to obey? Maybe it is not money. Maybe it is a person. Maybe it is a relationship. Maybe it is your plans, your pride, your desires, or the arrogance you have refused to surrender. God’s door is open. But if a person wants to enter into God’s will, they cannot continue holding tightly onto the world. Because only those who are humble can truly come before God.
