“This is England”, Tommo yelled as he approached the boat. Danny Tommo, the activist behind a recent wave of anti-migrant protests involving masked men, attempted to sink a dinghy while it had a lifeboat rescuer on board during an operation on Tuesday. The Patriot Platform founder, real-name Daniel Thomas, live-streamed himself approaching the boat in the Channel and shouting at rescuers that they were in “English waters”. “This is England, this isn’t France anymore,” he said, before using what appeared to be a knife to stab and slash at the side of the dinghy. Migrants had spent some 33 hours in a small boat and had to be moved from a RNLI lifeboat to a Border Force cutter in an effort to avoid activists, led by Thomas, who followed them in his own boat while live-streaming to YouTube. Thomas, who has previously been jailed for attempted kidnapping, appeared to have endangered the life of the rescuer. He is heard urging the rescuer to “get off the boat... you’ve got time to get off the boat”. The rescuer bordered the empty dinghy to secure it when Thomas tried to sink it. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are investigating the incident: “We are also aware of a video circulating online relating to damage being caused to a boat in the English Channel on the afternoon of 22 September, and we are conducting inquiries into the matter.” Lifeboats had been sent to collect about 60 passengers of a migrant dinghy which had departed from the coast of Normandy on Monday morning. Protesters amassed in Gosport, Hampshire, with police making six arrests, including for assault an emergency worker. #5news #migrants #dingy
