I can afford nearly any car. But I will not buy a new car. I mean these companies have been building cars forever and they still can’t make them last. No thanks I’ll stick with my 2010 Escalade and my 1986 Toyota 4 x 4.

Price is the dominant factor. For me though it’s also because new cars don’t have anything I want in the looks and features department and they’re harder to do any maintenance or repairs on myself

Still drive my 2003 Chevy Cavalier, bought when I graduate college. Has lifetime satellite radio. I have other cars but this is my daily. The thing just refuses to die, rust will take her before the engine dies.

so I'm about to sell one of my cars and it's the second newest (by 3 years), second highest mileage (by about 90k miles), gets twice the fuel economy, but the break past point is the $40 a month difference in insurance plus gas over the old one. we're talking about a 2010 Honda Fit at 200k miles vs a 94 Chevy Suburban at 290k miles. the Suburban is the lower cost of ownership (maintenance, insurance, and gas) and has at least another 200k miles left in it. The Honda has another 150k miles in it with major overhaul.
