OK, I’ve been watching you on and off for a while now and still work with me here. You have the choice to be annoyed by whatever you want to be annoyed by because believe me the world will present to you so many options! Your job as a spiritually awakened person is to be able to accept that there are these things in the world that you do not agree with and then not allow them to define you or rattle you or disturb your well-being and your peace. That is your job. That doesn’t mean you have to look away from the injustices of the world. It just means that you look at them differently. They are there they always will be there and if you want to go deeper, you can explore why consciousness or source allows this type of negative experience in the world. Because it is through negative experiences and things like this that awaken us to what’s true. I hope this helps and I hope you find peace. I will say in one more thing if you cannot find it there going somewhere else is not gonna help you.

I own a home there and the rage I have for the colonization. Also, the guilt I have for not knowing my role until after I was in it. My rules: business only with Costa Ricans - realtors, builders, property managers, artists, restaurants, shops, tours. Tips always to minimum wage workers, gas stations, servers etc. it is not a tipping culture - doesn’t matter. Report abuses. I have personally written letters to the municipality to combat over reach by colonizers. Us being there is inherently harmful, we have to be deliberate in how we reconcile that.

Wild. Are you near Guanacaste? I lived in CR for 5 years and never really saw any of this going on.

that's really sad to hear. I'm in Costa Rica and our town feels the exact opposite. There is a lot of money here also but the wealthy are investing so intentionally into this community, environment and ticos.

Unfortunately that’s the down side of westerners moving to a lot of these countries (obviously not all bad). It’s the same in Bali ect. People come with money and they’re entitled. They’re leaving their country for the peace and nature not realising they are destroying that in these other countries. There’s some good documentaries on YouTube even about Bali and how all the wellness girlies come living in their mansions with retreat centres being built daily, while the locals barley make $5 a day and live in their shop with 7 other people. It’s such a shame that people don’t respect the country they going to. When I traveled Costa Rica outside the retreat, I noticed the same thing, Americans snapping their fingers at the locals demanding things from them and treating them less than human. In Bali it’s Australians although now unfortunately it’s become popular to Americans too. I think it’s the mindset of the west, the unfortunate coloniser mindset that they haven’t unpacked yet. I think we should all be able to live wherever in the world we feel called but it’s important to do some research, speak to locals, respect the land and try to help as much as possible since we have the advantage to. Big love to you sister, I’m glad you’re there making a difference and pathing a new path for hopefully more people to recognise this.

The issue is the lack of connection to land and self, and heart, regardless of where people are. Like you said it happens everywhere… it’s the culture of colonialism

That is unsettling, you can tell a lot about someone by how they treat their “subordinates”. To hear of a lack of care for the culture and environment is sad and surprising, especially considering that their emphasis on eco-tourism helped put Costa Rica on the map as a prized destination. Good for you for speaking your truth and setting a better example.

My ex was born in Costa Rica and him and his 2 siblings were in an orphanage until they were adopted by their parents adopted them. He was 8 when he was adopted from a wonderful family in Canada, but sadly he was really abused sexually & physically in the Costa Rica orphanage. Apparently there are a lot of orphanages there or there used to be about 30 years ago.
