5 things that actually changed my skin this summer + what my scan says I still have to fix 👀 save it
5 signs your people-pleasing might be driven by OCD: 1️⃣ You don’t just apologize to be polite: You feel like you have to. Even when you didn’t do anything wrong, you might apologize repeatedly because you can’t shake the possibility that you offended someone, hurt their feelings, or did something wrong without realizing it. 2️⃣ You need to know people aren’t mad at you: A shorter text, slightly different tone, or tiny change in someone’s behavior can send you spiraling. You might repeatedly ask if everything is okay because you need reassurance that you didn’t do something wrong. 3️⃣ You overexplain so there’s no chance you’ll be misunderstood: You might add disclaimers, clarify what you meant, or send follow-up texts because the possibility that someone could interpret you the “wrong” way feels impossible to let go. 4️⃣ Saying no can trigger way more than ordinary guilt: You might get stuck wondering whether saying no makes you selfish, inconsiderate, or a bad person, then say yes just to get relief from the anxiety and doubt. 5️⃣ You feel responsible for how everyone around you feels: If someone seems upset, disappointed, or even just quieter than usual, you might immediately assume you caused it, replay your interactions, or feel like you need to fix things before you can move on. Being a people pleaser doesn’t mean you have OCD. But if your people-pleasing comes with intense doubt, intrusive fears about hurting or upsetting people, reassurance seeking, rumination, or a feeling that you have to keep everyone happy in order to feel okay, OCD could be playing a role. If this sounds familiar, help is available. OCD is highly treatable with specialized, evidence-based therapy.
