@lastbroadcast09: In 1976, a Soviet fighter pilot did something almost impossible. Viktor Belenko took off from a Soviet air base in a MiG-25 Foxbat and disappeared from the radar. But he wasn't going on a normal training flight. He was escaping. On September 6, 1976, Belenko flew across the Sea of Japan and landed his MiG-25 at Hakodate Airport in Japan. He had deliberately defected from the Soviet Union and immediately requested political asylum in the United States. The crazy part? The MiG-25 wasn't just another fighter. At the time, the aircraft was one of the most feared and mysterious Soviet military jets in the world. Western intelligence knew very little about what was actually inside it. And now the West had a real one. American and Japanese specialists were finally able to examine the aircraft up close. The MiG-25 was eventually dismantled and returned to the Soviet Union in dozens of crates. But the Soviet Union couldn't undo what had already happened. The West had seen inside one of the USSR's most closely guarded aircraft. Belenko never returned to the Soviet Union. He was granted asylum in the United States and eventually became an American citizen. One pilot. One aircraft. One flight. And one of the most unbelievable defections of the Cold War. History sometimes sounds completely fictional… until you realize it actually happened. Would you have had the courage to do what Belenko did? #History #ColdWar #ViktorBelenko #MiG25 #SovietUnion
If you’ve seen inside a mig 25 it looks incredibly old. It probably takes a huge amount of skill to have even flew those things. NATO was so far ahead of the Soviets in terms of technology. Many of the other communist countries who supported Russia were still flying migs from the 50s

That doesn't take courage, his family was abused and had to go to jail.
In North Korea, 3 generations go to jail and a prison camp where you will not return alive.
