What is hardest for me is, even when I know it’s my RSD, and not true, it doesn’t change much. Like I can’t reason or think my way out of it. I just have to ride the wave and hope it lets me off soon.

Very good post, but I'm confused about one thing with the theatrical side of the single photo. While that single photo can be used to make an adaptation of the entire play, I think your points about RSD demonstrate it is a terrible way to get an accurate representation of a whole play. Unless I didn't understand from the earlier part about your paper that you were saying you can do that but you really shouldn't.

What if the single photo is their perception of us and RSD is the fear that the way we are perceived will be wrong and hypervigilance comes from an intense need to be perceived "correctly"? Are we just continually rejecting ourselves bc we can't accept their perception?

I agree so hard! That *one* picture distills the production into its own story, of its own lived adaptation - as would the brain in its chosen narrative of “ha ha they weren’t having fun at all!”

My husband looks at his watch a lot when I start talking. I pointed it out and he got defensive. I don’t think he was doing it on purpose but it was still upsetting.

I did this after my wedding. I had to remind myself that people loved it. They danced, drank, and were merry. They did have to go home eventually and go to bed🤦🏻♀️

Hai, archivist here!! This is something we think about all the time, especially when we digitize portions of a collection and put that one photo online. Context is key where archives are concerned, so splitting up or reorganizing a collection destroys it by reminding the creator’s perspective and adding our bias. So yes, I think you’re right, and I think that RSD can also keep us from remembering that there’s more context in any relationship. I also think RSD is magnified by codependency and neurodivergent splitting.
