that's because they don't see gay people as actual people, just caricatures they see on a screen. people tend to think that the actors they see on screen are only acting and aren't actually what they present, though i will say that this is sometimes the case. to them, gay = funny and if they are confronted with the reality that gays aren't actually just hilarious entertainment machines, they'll get mad.

it's funny cz even when I wasn't at my most educated, this is smth I noticed early on ever since i was js a young teen. queer people r only visible and/or "accepted" when they provide entertainment or are deemed funny and enough of an internet personality, it's also only when a gay person gets famous or is put on a leverage(?) that queer struggles and the issues us lgbt people face are given attention to and even then it's mere sob stories for most filipinos, like I don't see much progression despite the many queer icons we got in the entertainment industry but that's probably only just me 🥲 it's still upsetting to think about though

Filipino here. We interviewed my old classmate for a story telling activity and she also said that she was being treated as entertainment. Worse, it was mostly from a gay teacher (that apparently she and I both hate/dislike). More things happened but I won't spill them online.
