@tlingitstrong: #GeneJake #LawsonCreek #Cemetery #DouglasAlaska #Indigenous GENE JAKE June 10, 1898 – 1928 Age 30 YRS On July 18, 2026, Gene Jake’s headstone was recovered from the earth in the Native section of the Douglas Island Lawson Creek Cemeteries. Today, volunteers lifted his headstone and gave it a new foundation, raising Gene back up out of the ground so he can once again be seen, remembered, and cared for. This is what cemetery restoration is about—returning dignity, honor, and respect to those who came before us. 🪦 To support the Douglas Cemeteries Restoration, go to JuneauHistory.org and click Support/Donate. “Show me your cemeteries and I will show you what kind of people you have.” — attributed to Benjamin Franklin
