@huckleberry.cant.hear: There’s so much more to the story of Huckleberry than a clever adventure cat who talks with buttons and does tricks. And you haven’t heard it because most of that other stuff is me. Sharing even seemingly “simple” or fundamental things like the fact I have chronic health issues is scary. It gives people ways to hurt you. But I also think sharing is how I find my people (or in this case my cat?). It’s hard to admit I would’ve have looked at an animal with the same issues as me and thought, “he’s too much, he’d be a burden, he’ll be too expensive.” I think a lot of people would probably think the same. There’s a reason old, sick, or disabled pets are often the last pick at the shelter. They’re not easy. They “take” more time and effort and money. I’ve spent years trying to make my sick self “easier”. To try and need as little as possible so that I won’t be hard to love. Having a sick cat, and never once thinking he is “taking” anything from me, feels like it’s starting to heal something in me. And seeing how many of you love him anyway is doing the same. I don’t really believe in fate or god or some all knowing, all powerful universe. But whatever it is that’s out there, it somehow knew we’d both be better off with each other. P.s. thanks for reading my whole rambling thoughts on the internet that may have been better left to my journal. (Unless you skipped to the end. Then, idk, have a great day anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️) #chronicillness #disabled #deafcat #rescuecat #chronicpain

Have you ever had your home checked for mold? It’s strange that he didn’t exhibit any of these symptoms when he first arrived and then all of a sudden started having these symptoms. Just a thought.

This may be out there, but have you considered an animal communicator? Perhaps the kitty can tell you more about what he is feeling.

I'm so sorry Huckleberry isn't doing well. I was so moved the first time you came on my FYP and I saw you communicate with him in sign language. I have seen several people suggest that the neuro issues could be caused by mold and that is definitely something I have seen happen to other pets on here, but I've also seen animals becoming sick due to certain plug-in air fresheners and people using essential oil diffusers (tea tree, peppermint, eucalyptus, etc.).

So I have the female Huckleberry. Rescued at 11months. She is now 11. White, odd eyes, deaf. She has a lot of the same issues. Doctors found nothing wrong with test. I’ve decided it’s emotional maybe from the trauma before her rescue. So she gets outside time on her leash or her catio and her favorite foods. No meds, some supplements. I just try to keep her life low stress. Seems to help.

They need to remove his microchip, it is pressing on a nerve or restricting blood flow. Several stories of this happening

Hi, I think you might want to check your house for mold? I've seen some cases irl and on social media where people and their pets got sick because of previously undetected mold problems. Also I think it would be great if you could have those digital temperature that could detect humidity too (too hight and too low humidity cause different types of problems but if it's consistently high, it could cause mold to grow).

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I happen to notice you have a plant that is highly toxic to cats, if it’s what I think it is. Snake plant ? My cat had asthma and I had to make sure that I don’t use any essential oils in the house including Doc Bronners. I use only unscented cleaner now and use an air purifier. I’m sure you’ve gone the a list of household possibilities. I really suggest having a mold test done if you haven’t. It could contribute to both of your symptoms. It did for my friend and her dog.

I love love love seeing a cat and their person find a way to really communicate, and that is so wonderful with you and Huckleberry. One thing that caught my attention was diarrhea related to gabapentin, which is also an issue for one of my girls. After years of trying things, we finally stumbled on something that helps -- ondansetron/zofran seems to balance her out just enough. Typically prescribed because of nausea, not diarrhea, but it's cheap and safe, so our IM specialist is happy to have her stay on it as long as it's helping her. Just something to look into, in case it helps you guys.

I think sometimes they find us because as disabled people, we know they are not disposable, that they are worthy and we will love and advocate for them. I had a similar experience, adopted my cat Miss Honey, and almost immediately found out she has megaesophagus, vet told me she would survive a few weeks to maybe a few months with a terrible quality of life. Well she had other plans, 5 years later, a few modifications, and yes some very expensive vet bills she is still here and thriving. Huck is so lucky to have you advocating for him and I’m sure no matter what he knows that you love him and will always make the best decisions possible with the information and resources you have at the time 💕

I adopted a blind cat a year ago who progressively declined through the year with a ton of vet visits, while I was living through chronic pain - he passed a few months ago but he was my soul cat, and I have zero regrets in the end, no matter how hard it was. I think there’s a reason we get the animals we get, before this I had no idea I could actually be responsible for a high-needs animal. Thank you for loving him, he definitely knows it and he knows you’re trying your best.

I’m so sorry it’s a struggle, goodness knows how much impact this has on your day to day life, but I don’t think he could have wished for a better owner and advocate. I hope you can find something that helps him live his best happy life. He clearly loves you.

what you are feeling is normal. not wanting to adopt a sick pet is normal. many times when my cat was sick I wished I hadn't adopted her. the frustration and the pain was overwhelming. in the end, I was able to help her heal and my baby is doing okay. believe me when I say that you are doing amazing, because you are. Hucky is lucky to have found you, and you are discovering how resilient you can be. good luck to you both with the future ❤️

Hi :
We have a two year old main coon with mega colon. Already 15k in emergency vet bills. He thought at first we’d have to put him down. He’s gonna be on meds forever most likely it’s a balance between him having diarrhoea or him being backed up. I hate seeing animals in pain or suffering. He’s doing well but he can end up at the vet at any time. And he’s traumatized from the vet. So heartbreaking.

I’m not sure what symptoms he’s exhibiting at the moment, but perhaps consulting a cat behaviourist could be beneficial? My thinking is that maybe certain aspects of his condition could be improved by examining his behaviour and environment, and possibly making some adjustments. Even if it’s just to make him more comfortable overall 💕 he’s absolutely gorgeous and you’re doing an incredible job taking care of him 💌💌

unfortunately the first clue to all the health issues is that he's a white cat. I love my white baby but he came with all the recessive genes and issues.
