@aksuvill: Feelings are stable emotional states of a person arising in the process of his relationship with the world, other people and himself. In simple words, feelings are how the psyche responds to significant life events. Some signs of feelings: Resilience - a feeling lives longer than emotion. For example, love or resentment can last for years, while a flash of joy or anger lasts minutes. Selectivity is a focus on a specific object, that is, on a person, an idea, a value. Meaningfulness - feelings are associated with thinking, when a person realises why and to whom he feels something. Species There is no unified classification of feelings in psychology, but there are several common approaches: By object: Moral (conscience, guilt, pride, compassion); Aesthetic (admiration, disgust, feeling of beauty); Intellectual (curiosity, surprise, satisfaction with knowledge); Patriotic, parental, religious, etc. By the degree of generality: Specific - aimed at an individual or situation (love for a friend, fear of the boss); Generalised - concerning a group of phenomena (respect for the profession, sympathy for the nation); Abstract - expressing a worldview position (sense of duty, desire for justice). By valence: Positive (joy, gratitude, affection); Negative (envy, resentment, contempt); Ambivalent, combining opposite emotions (love, in which there is tenderness, anger, and anxiety). Functions Feelings fulfil several vital functions: Signalling and evaluation - help to assess the situation and warn from the point of view of "good/bad", "useful/harmful", "safe/dangerous". For example, fear signals a threat and mobilises the body to avoid danger, joy confirms that actions or events correspond to needs and values. Regulatory and motivational - feelings guide behaviour, are a source of motivation. For example, the feeling of love motivates to take care of a partner, children, friends, guilt helps to correct social behaviour, maintaining relationships with others. Communicative - feelings expressed through facial expressions, intonation, posture and gestures, inform others about the internal state. For example, the expression of sadness signals the need for support, a sincere smile demonstrates friendliness and disposition. Protective and adaptive - feelings such as fear or disgust help to adapt to the environment and avoid potentially harmful situations. Manifestations In human behaviour, feelings are expressed through emotions, intonation, facial expressions, bodily reactions. For example, a feeling of sympathy can manifest itself in the softness of the voice and smile, and hostility - through a tense posture and avoiding the look. The same feeling can be lived and manifested in different ways depending on the emotional state a person is in at the moment. For example, the feeling of friendship can be accompanied at different times by emotions of joy, interest, resentment, shame and irritation. Management Controlling feelings does not mean suppressing them. This is the ability to realise what is happening to a person, to accept your feelings and choose how to react to them. Some principles of controlling feelings without suppression: Awareness - it is important to notice your emotions without evaluation: give yourself the right to feel. Acceptance is to recognise emotion as a normal and temporary reaction, not the enemy. Expression is a healthy expression of emotions through words, creativity or physical activity. Analysis - to understand the causes of emotion and its needs. Some techniques of emotional self-regulation: Deep breathing technique - allows you to reduce the level of activation of the nervous system. The "stop-frame" method - when you feel a strong emotion, you need to pause, stop and ask yourself "What do I feel now? Why?" Keeping a diary of emotions - to record your feelings and situations that cause them. Physical activity - walking, yoga or swimming - are natural ways to release emotional stress.
