@championuniversity: If the labor guide says 3 hours, why did the shop quote 5? Because the labor guide has never seen your car. Published labor times are based on standardized conditions. They cannot know whether your vehicle has ten years of corrosion, a seized bolt, a broken stud, or another condition that changes how the repair actually has to be performed. That does not mean a shop should have permission to add whatever it wants. If the condition of your vehicle changes the repair, there should be evidence, an explanation, and your authorization before additional work continues. The standard isn’t the lowest number. It’s a number somebody can explain. #AutoRepair #CarRepair #Mechanic #CarMaintenance #Automotive

And if the customer doesn’t give you all the details going in that their next door neighbors cousin already tried to fix it and left pieces off and broke wires and the technician has to fix a mess and then fix the problem it cost extra.

the sad thing is the new car warranty Time study is not accurate. instructor watch a Time study and explain that the car was in the shop the tools were laid out along with the part on the bench the clock started and stopped every time he read The shop manual. bypassing the dispatcher the parts department, service writer, bringing in and moving out the vehicle and clean up the bay and put back the tools. and the time was cut almost in half and when it went to upper management it was cut again. a technician is the backbone of keeping the industry running and when the technician is being punished for there crap that's allowed to be built and not compensate fairly to the technician that saves their ass.

It's in the name. "guide". The time isn't set in stone. Rust, rot and age? Time goes up. You already worked on it? Times double.
