this happens with dyslexia too, at least in my experience, because literally anytime I search for anything about how to deal with my disability, like Journaling or writing a story, everyone only treat most dyslexic people like they are kids, yes kids are most likely to have it, but it feels so frustrating because I still don't understand it either way

I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD since I was twelve and I also struggle with starting tasks, but one thing I struggle with in particular is completely forgetting to do stuff😭🙏 like eating, doing dishes or studying like my brain literally removes that thought completely and it gets even worse when I’m home alone because there’s nobody to remind me to do these things🥹 I don’t even know if it’s adhd related my brain just likes to prioritize certain things and completely ignore the rest

I was diagnosed at 6 (which I am extremely lucky for as I am afab!) and watching it change from a disability for boys that I was ashamed and afraid to even say that I have it to “lollll Im SO qUiRkY! Oh whoops! Sorry its because of my adhd” is so wild. I used to be happy for it until I realized it was equally harmful just in a different way. Im also late diagnosed autistic and everyone chooses to ignore that diagnosis in favour of my adhd because it’s easier and “not as disabling” “almost normal”. When most things people get mad at me and criticize me for are symptoms of my disability -especially executive functioning and refuse to work with me and just expect me to apply myself harder and hulk smash my way through the wall. Finding resources as an adult or a therapist who can actually help is also a nightmare. I wasn’t taught or given all of the resources I actually need and it was instead focused on issues my parents prioritized that are not as important in adulthood. Its so frustrating

We have been diagnosed with ADHD and what we do to help with executive dysfunction is either body doubling with a buddy and do tasks together, ask a friend to text us that they are coming over (when they arent) to get us to speed clean or [this is more of an us thingy but] we like to put on those study playlists cause lofi makes our brain smooth and it makes us want to do things (I cant explain why we do it, we just lock in

and other people with disorders who you could've thought would understand being misunderstood by people who don't struggle mentally also somehow see ADHD as lesser disorder because of attention it gets💔like NO
