If I had to start over, these are the things l'd do differently: 1. Really think about the type of lifestyle that you want to have in 20-30 years and work backwards. If you want to have a calm life, have time to be with family and friends, travel, prioritise your own health then don't choose nursing as a full time career as a slow paced lifestyle is so difficult to achieve. 2. Think outside the box - there is a whole world outside of nursing and you can use your skills in other ways that don’t result in burn out, chronic stress and loss of passion in a career that you were once loved so much. You owe it to yourself to at least research and decide whether you want to merge your career and interests. 3. Apply the knowledge that you gain to treat patients but also to take care of yourself too. Nursing is hard and it will require a lot of sacrifice BUT that doesn't mean that you should neglect yourself. Prioritise sleep, exercise, a healthy diet and hobbies. These things will keep you going and allow you to be the version of yourself. Be really mindful of your career and aware of the steps you're taking. It's very easy to become a sheep and follow the flock - I’ve been there and ended up in a path that was not for me. So I quit and built my own business, using the skills in healthcare but in a way that gave me my time and freedom back. If your goal for 2026, is freedom, flexibility and peace, I was you to know that it is totally possible. Without a huge following or prior qualifications. You just need to be willing to take the first step. DM me the word BURNOUT and I’ll show you how! #nurse #nhsnurse #burnout #healthcare
