@justbeandme: I’m going to the Olympics. 🇳🇪🏇🏾 Not someday. Not if it happens. I’m going to do everything I can to make it happen. But the biggest question is…If I have to wear another country’s flag, can I still represent Niger? Niger (pronounced “nee-ZHER”). 🇳🇪 But I can’t tell this story without acknowledging where Niger is today. Since the military coup in 2023, Niger has been under military rule and has faced serious security, political, and humanitarian challenges. For a country going through so much, representing Niger on an Olympic stage would mean more to me than simply competing. It would be a way to show another side of my country, its people, its culture, its strength, and the dreams that still exist there. I rode my first horse in Niger when I was 5 years old. 🐎❤️ I never could have imagined that one day, that little girl might dream of riding all the way to the Olympics for the country where it all began. So what does it actually take? 🏇🏾 Developing to the highest level of my sport 🇳🇪 Working toward eligibility to represent Niger 📋 Understanding the Olympic qualification and federation requirements 🌎 Competing, gaining experience, and building an international record 💰 Finding the funding, sponsors, horses, and team needed to make this possible 📈 And continuing to improve year after year This is not going to happen overnight. It may take years. It may take decades. But I’m starting now. Follow along as I figure out how to make an Olympic dream for Niger become a reality. 🇳🇪🏇🏾 Because if I’m going to dream this big… why not see how far I can take it? #blackexcellence #equestrian #horsegirl #equine #olympics

Many riders train outside their own countries, but then represent their home country. What you need to do is qualify. G’luck.

You can switch countries but there is a like waiting period for lack of better term. For example Boyd Martin is born and raised in Australia but represents the US. MERs are going to be the hard part.

You should connect with Lauren Billys. She’s based in the CA and was the only rider for Puerto Rico in Rio & Tokyo. I imagine she can point you in the right direction

Equestrian actually has a lot of people who train outside of their country. So train in US/UK/Denmark/etc but flag of Niger.

As per FEI regulations, you are allowed to change NF once. However, if you have the possibility, you can train in Europe (for instance), or wherever you find opportunity. Yes, if you qualify, you will represent Nigeria. Other famous Athletes: Edwina Tops Alexander (represents Australia, but lives in the Netherlands and/or Monaco), Rodrigo Pessoa (represents Brazil, trains in Europe). Best of luck in your journey!🥰

No, you only represent the country you're starting for. You can switch once, but you cannot start for multiple countries at the same time as the Olympics are considered a peaceful battle of the nations.
But that doesn't mean that you cannot ride for your country just because it's unstable. If Niger doesn't send any athletes, the Olympic committee has the option to let you start anyways.
So don't give up on your dream and contact the Olympic committee and ask for guidance.

it would depend on what the NGB of equestrian sport says about citizenship. in the US you have to have citizenship (in some capacity) to make a team. from there it's about horses, money, MER, results, the politics of selection, and what is needed within the dynamics of the team itself.

You can do it ! But I feel like one of the harder parts is the fact that you can’t rely on one horse to take you up in the heights it’s probably going to be very expensive once the fences get higher than 1.20 moving up can get slower and harder
