I got a job during the pandemic (I was 17) at my local grocery store at the deli counter. My trainer started working there when she was 16 and planned to go back to hs to retake some credits then go to university. She never did. She had worked there ft for 15 YEARS. She was 30 years old… she ended up picking up a smoking habit from her colleagues and had to take sick leave b/c she got throat cancer. Never get too comfortable.

I worked second shift as a graphic designer at a yearbook company at 19. One day, I looked, like REALLY LOOKED, at the folks coming off of first shift and they looked miserable. They were the age that I am now (in my 40s). I enrolled in college the following fall semester.

Same with call centre 🤣. I saw balloons with the number 30 and asked who was celebrating their birthday… come to find out it was their 30th anniversary with the company. I said immediately no!!!!!! 😵💫😵💫😵💫 Quit with no plan shortly after!

That is literally me at my job. I’m going on year 7 and got turned down for a promotion and that was the biggest blessing of my life because I’m pivoting to go back to school to switch to something i actually love. Don’t get stuck!

Had a similar experience with a bus driver. I was the only one on the bus early one morning. Told him I’m heading to school & he told me he spent too much of his 20s partying/drinking & he said, “Now look at me; driving a bus. Don’t be like me” I was like…😳

My husband came to Canada in 2019, worked a job like this from 2020 until last year he decided to go back to school for HVAC, I’m so proud of him. He said aint no way I’m doing a life sentence in an environment like this. Some places the wages are decent but it’s really not worth it for your mental health
