I have a little theory. we know that the squids are "peaceful" species that never waged war on anyone. but come to think of it: if they were so peaceful, how could they become an FTL civilization? perhaps, the answer lies in the Void. we pushed them to extinction in the First Galactic War. and they've taken refuge in the Void. but do you really think that a civilization that is on the brink of dying out would risk jumping into another dimension JUST to avoid contact with us? my theory is that they've came from the Void. they've achieved FTL without waging wars and conquest because they simply drag the planets into the Void with them. the technology they use to create exostorms doesn't seem "new" or "experimental" to them, no. it matches their architecture. which means they've been practicing it for a long time. what if the so-called "peace treaty" they planned to make with Super Earth was them dragging Super Earth into the Void? what their "peace" means assimilation? Squ'bai shrine might have just been their biggest outpost in THIS realm, not their actual homeworld or capital.
