Every citizen should adopt one basic safety rule: If anyone claiming to be a police officer asks you to accompany them to a police station, do not automatically enter their private vehicle. Politely insist: “Tell me the police station and I will come in my own vehicle. You may travel in yours.” Where officers are not in uniform, citizens should be especially cautious. Ask for official identification, the reason for detention, the relevant police station and, where circumstances allow, immediately inform family members, a lawyer or trusted contacts about your location. Never voluntarily enter an unidentified private vehicle merely because someone claims to represent the police. Another serious concern involves people dealing publicly with cryptocurrency and digital currencies. Criminals may believe that such individuals have immediate access to transferable assets that can be moved quickly without traditional banking procedures.
