Damn so if I work at Toyota as a parts manager you still wouldn’t let me supply parts for my Toyota?

Perfectly valid examples of why, but also, we all know it’s the mark up on the prices, which is the exact same at every single workshop ever, it’s not just you guys, but, I’d happily pay $200/hr for skilled labour, but I’m not paying $650 for a $100 part

100% valid we deal this all the time its so we can back up what we do,, even now the amount of times we are fixing cars where the customer had " fitted a particular part " and its caused issues,,its hilarious how people get funny about this but don't question it anywhere else in retail

You can spin it in anyway you want, but you making money on parts. If the customer supplies the part, they must sort out the warranty

I hate paying $750 for a $75 part…… I’ll pay $198 hr for skilled labor all day.

I'm curious as to what ECU diagnostic codes were there to begin with and what codes were after customer fitted his own parts.

People say you make money on parts but if they supply a wrong part it may cause the vehicle to be stuck on a hoist blocking more work causing loss income. Business is business no business doesn’t charge a markup

I get it, but a lot of shops only install mediocre parts. I want better than mediocrity on my rig.

Awesome way to explain it, you’ll be happy to provide receipt to make sure the parts your purchasing match the amount you would be charging on receipt?

I buy from the same supplier as my mechanic. same warranty, cheaper price than he can get it due to me having the account for 25+ years.

He’s paying you to do a job. You don’t want to do it . If he supplied you apart it’s faulty. That’s his problem to chase it up. but if you were a good mechanic shop. he’s have a receipt. You still could bring up and say it’s a faulty part and help your customer out. so I don’t get why you don’t want to do it. You’re losing business.

A lot of part supplies, ie Burson repco Napa most diesel places and Turbo places only give you parts warranty. They don't pay labour and if you are lucky enough to get labour they will only pay you 60 dollars per hr if that its about the markup you buy it 300 dollars at trade costs and sell to the customer at 700 dollars at retail
