@welshnature: Today I had the opportunity to photograph a privately commissioned Eurocopter Squirrel as it assisted firefighters tackling the long-running wildfires around Blaenavon. I captured it making repeated trips to Keepers Pond, carefully collecting water using a Bambi bucket, before heading back over the hills to drop it onto the smouldering landscape. I've been fortunate enough to attend many air shows over the years, and I've seen some incredible displays of flying skill - but watching this was every bit as impressive. There was no room for error as the pilot demonstrated incredible precision and control, manoeuvring the helicopter into position over the pond, filling the bucket and lifting away before heading back towards the fire. It really brought home just how much skill, concentration and experience goes into this kind of flying - and, more importantly, the vital role these crews play in supporting the firefighters on the ground. A privilege to witness and photograph. Huge respect to everyone involved in tackling these fires and protecting the local landscape. #blaenavon #viral #fyp #cymru #Wales
