@europeanspaceagency: Imagine walking 1 km from your base in -80°C, then climbing a 45-metre-high structure on a rough, windy day. This is part of life at Concordia Station in Antarctica. Since November, @Dr. Sarah Gaier has lived and worked in one of Earth's most extreme environments, collecting data to help prepare astronauts for future space missions. The tower Sarah climbed is a collection point for weather, meteorological and satellite measurement data. Its delicate instruments require weekly maintenance, a task the team always tackles in pairs for safety. The tower is also home to our Dome X project: a large radiometer that measures the reflection and refraction of sunlight and moonlight off the ice. 📹 ESA - Dr. Sarah Gaier #ESA #Antarctica #Science
